PLAN IN PLACE TO DEVELOP BELADIN

The government will develop Beladin into a new township. To start with, the status of Beladin has been changed into a rural growth centre (RGC). There are several other projects in the area, including oil palm estates in peat soil along the coast. Established plantation companies will be encouraged to develop the estates. The government is currently negotiating with these companies to develop the area.

Since developing oil palm plantations in peat soil is more expensive, the government will subsidise the cost and provide assistance so that the peat swamp areas can be utilised for estate development.

SRI AMAN - LINGGA - TANJUNG BIJAT ROAD BEING PLANNED

A road network will be constructed to link Lingga and Tanjung Bijat with Sri Aman as part of the overall plan to develop Sri Aman as an economic centre of Sri Aman Division.

The Sri Aman-Lingga- Tanjung Bijat area, known to have fertile soil, will be developed for commercial agriculture purposes. The State Government believes that the development of the hinterlands of Sri Aman could contribute to the faster growth of the division.

A well-developed Sri Aman town, now well connected with roads to Kuching, Kota Samarahan and Sibu, would enable the people to market their agricultural products to town for better prices. The government has pledged to attract more investors to open land for commercial purposes in the division in an effort to develop its economic potentials for the benefit of the people.

It is believed that the plan to develop the economic potentials of Sri Aman division will materialised as the people have already shown a positive response towards the implementation of some of the projects in the division
